About

Our history

  • 2007

    Founded

The Dartmouth Education Foundation (DEF) was founded in 2007 by parents and citizens in Dartmouth concerned about the consequences of decreased public funding on the quality of education in the town’s public schools.

Our Role

The DEF now serves as an important bridge between tax dollars available for educational priorities and those made available through private grant awards to teachers. Funds raised annually and distributed through our teacher grant program augment the Dartmouth Public Schools annual budget and funds available through individual PTOs. The Dartmouth Education Fund is a permanently endowed fund of the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts.

Mission

The Dartmouth Education Foundation (DEF) ensures enhanced and enriched educational opportunities for students in the Dartmouth Public Schools. We are a permanently endowed fund of the SouthCoast Community Foundation.

Vision

A deep sense of pride and ownership exists for the Dartmouth Public Schools. Our schools are valued by the public. We engender excitement and enthusiasm by supporting innovative thinking, creative ideas and experimentation.
